The hat stays red. The Redcap is D&D's most unsettling fey — a CR 3 murderous creature that needs to kill to survive and has been doing so very efficiently. It takes the pastoral charm of fey folklore and replaces it entirely with something that runs faster when it smells blood. Use it in dark Feywild encounters, as the creature haunting a forest road, or as the answer to why travelers have been disappearing near the standing stones.
