"Captain’s Log – Date Unknown
-
I do not know how many days have passed since we brought the first of them aboard. The cold gnaws at the timbers, yet I feel no frost—only the sickly heat of fevered dread. The crew dwindles. Those who remain whisper in broken voices, their eyes hollow, their hands trembling. The corridors stink of sweat and something fouler, a musk that clings to the walls like a living thing. It moves in the dark. A shape neither beast nor man, flowing like ink through the narrow spaces of my vessel. I have seen its silhouette against the lantern light—twisted limbs, a head too elongated, eyes that do not shine but devour the very light around them. I ordered the hold sealed. A futile act. It slips through the cracks, unfettered by wood or iron. It knows the ship better than I, moving with the silence of a shade. I hear the wet drip, drip of something unseen, and in my dreams, I see its hunger, its patient, ceaseless watching. The ice outside is vast, but the ship is smaller still. There is nowhere left to run. If I do not burn this vessel, it will not be mine much longer.
This Voyage is Damned."
