Description

A beholder that has been somewhere worse and came back different. The Nightmare Beholder is a dream-tainted variant — a CR 13 horror that combines the beholder's iconic eye ray mechanics with nightmare and fear effects that make it a distinct encounter from its standard counterpart. Deploy it as the boss of a dreamscape dungeon, a beholder that has been feeding on Night Hag territory, or the creature responsible for a region where sleep has become dangerous.
