The myconid does not speak. It shares. A CR 0–2 mushroom folk native to the Underdark, myconids communicate through spore telepathy and are one of D&D's most distinct non-hostile Underdark encounters — the creatures the party can actually have a conversation with down there. Use them as information sources in an Underdark arc, the neutral faction in a subterranean political encounter, or the unexpected allies who have been watching longer than anyone realized. In the dark forests around Rivenwood, the ancient Drows, dark elves of legend, have returned, capturing villagers for a sinister ritual. One night, they descend on the village, dragging victims to a forest clearing where their leader awaits. Under a dark sky, a monstrous figure—a woman combined with a spider—emerges from a chasm. The Broodmother, filled with malevolent glee, accepts the sacrifices as the Drows chant in her honor.
Amidst the chaos, one villager escapes into the forest, only to be found by a Drow warrior who offers aid instead of harm. Together with his companions, he vows to end the Broodmother's reign of terror and save the remaining villagers. The fate of Rivenwood hangs in the balance.
