The kobold experiments did not all work as intended. The Kobold Abomination is what the tribe keeps and deploys as a weapon — a mutated kobold that has been changed by dragon magic into something that belongs in the front of an encounter rather than the back. Use it as the kobold tribe's magical failsafe, the result of dragonblood exposure that the tribe considers a blessing and the party's cleric has a different opinion about, or the dungeon boss of a kobold lair that the party expected to be straightforward.
