The Drowned Brute is what happens when the dead don't stay at the bottom of the sea — a waterlogged undead built for coastal dungeon arcs, shipwreck encounters, and anything involving too much water and too little light. Use it as the heavy in a drowned crew encounter, part of an undead faction guarding a sunken treasure, or the first wave of a coastal undead assault on a harbor town. The Terror was captained by Edward Crowley, gentle to his wife Arabella, but harsh to his crew. He demanded loyalty and skill in battle, as The Terror attacked any ship carrying treasure. Crowley possessed a medallion that controlled dragon turtles, ship-wrecking creatures of the sea. When his crew, weakened by hunger and scurvy, mutinied, Crowley cursed them before summoning a dragon turtle to destroy the ship.
His curse condemned them to a tortured existence, unable to die, and twisted them into monstrous forms. Now, aboard The Sunken Terror, they search for the medallion’s other half to finally find release. But until then, no one in The Howling Islands is safe from the Drowned Captain and his crew.
